Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is filled with  twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out–
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

  1. I love reading this when I was in high school. Maybe until now. it’s very encouraging. Thanks for posting.
    God bless you always! :)

  2. When working I had this in a frame in my office, now it sits on my desk at home as a continued reminder to never give up on anything. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Amen to all of that. We’ve been having a very difficult time lately and having faith in God is all that’s getting us through.

  4. So good to read this and at a particularly poignant time in my life when I fear things are being taken away from me and cannot see a clear path to the future. Wonderful encouragement. Thank you.

  5. Thanks for the encouraging words. I am in the midst of a hugh weight loss. Many are praying for me and so far the Lord is helping me stay on track. So are my friends when I weaken. Down 33 lbs. so far. But I have a way to go yet.
“So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.” I shall try to keep that in mind.
