“An eternal question about children is, “How should we educate them?”
Politicians and educators consider more school days in a year, more science and math, the use of computers and other technology in the classroom, more exams and tests, more certification for teachers, and less money for art.
All of these responses come from the place where we want to make the child into the best adult possible, not in the sense of virtuous and wise, but in the sense of one who is an efficient part of the machinery of society. But on all these counts, the soul is neglected.”
-Thomas Moore
“…So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine.(says the LORD)
Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you go to bed and when you get up.”
Deuteronomy 11:19
I loved this post! Thank you!
Yes! A timely reminder as the new school year begins …
“The machinery of society” is very aptly put. I so wish teachers could go back to teaching the way we did 20 years ago. It was fun and encouraging and developmentally correct. The role of a Christian parent is more important than ever these days!
